Levoit Core 300 Filter Replacement Tear-down & Comparison with Sakegdy Brand

We have two Levoit Air Purifier Large Room Core 300-P filters, one in the basement and one on the main floor. They help quite a bit with pet odours and with wildfire smoke. The Levoit brand replacement filters are almost $50 CAD from Amazon though, and you’re supposed to replace them a few times a year, so when I found Sakegdy brand ones that come in packs of 4 and are about $17 each, I was quite worried that they would be much inferior quality for such a lower price. So I did a video review and tear-down of both filters side-by-side.

I was pretty pleased to see that they are of comparable quality. You can watch the video review or read the recap below.

Recap

  • Outer mesh layer: plastic-y feel. Slightly finer mesh holes on Levoit brand. Both work same in the field trapping dust & hair.
  • Inner accordion fabric: almost identical; Levoit: thinner woven layer, thicker cotton later. Sakegdy is the opposite.
  • Carbon pellets: same setup. Levoit – slightly fewer bigger pellets. Sakegdy – slightly more, smaller pellets. Sakegdy might have more surface area for pellets.
  • Frame & build: Sakegdy has slightly less thick plastic & glue isn’t as tough, easier to rip it apart. But that doesn’t matter & has no real-world effect.
  • Verdict: very similar quality. Will continue to buy Sakegdy.
